Grewal was not present at the advisory board meeting Wednesday. Mandy Grewal, township supervisor, has previously stated that the overhaul is needed as an economic development tool to accommodate businesses in the corridor. The township’s plans for the road - developed by the Washtenaw County Road Commission - include widening it to four lanes, installing roundabouts at the intersections of Morgan and Textile roads and adding bike lanes. Township officials pursued the measure as a way to drum up local match funding needed for at least $30 million in construction to overhaul South State Road from just south of Ellsworth Road to just north of Michigan Avenue. By nature, a corridor improvement authority allows for the implementation of a tax increment financing plan to collect the increase in property tax revenue resulting from inflation or new development. The authority was created last week in a special meeting of the township’s Board of Trustees. Claudia Kretschmer, left, is briefed by consultants Ben Carlisle and Richard Carlisle, as well as Pittsfield Township Director of Utilities and Municipal Services Craig Lyon Wednesday afternoon at the first meeting of the advisory board for the State Road corridor improvement authority.
